David Prescott Music

David has been playing music his entire life. In fact, it is his life. Learning how to play trombone in grade school is one thing, but he’s taken the rest of his life to learn how to play trumpet, bass, guitar, keyboards, and drums.

In addition, David is most widely known for his writing and production skills in the studio. He has recorded hundreds of tracks with too many musicians and bands to count. He’s toured and played with world-class musicians for years.

Being one of the few that can travel easily from jazz to metal, David is rather unique to say the least.

Typically, the calendar on this page is filled with shows. Sure, you’ll still see a few, but lately David has been stepping away from live performing while he works on his new solo project. The solo project is by far the most ambitious project David has ever worked on. The idea is something that he says has been in his mind for years. It’s just now where technology has caught up enough to make his dream a reality.

The solo project will consist of two parts, live and studio. The studio work is being done right now and the music is incredible. David is really taking his time and doing it right. The music is powerful, emotional, and full of fun and surprises. On the tracks David is playing all the instruments and even doing some vocals. The recording will hopefully be complete before the end of the year.

The live part of the solo project is really what has David excited. He will be performing with a very sophisticated setup where he will be running and playing the tracks from his recordings done in the studio while playing various instruments throughout the performance. What really makes it fun is that even though he is playing against studio tracks, they are all still controlled by him live. This means that the show can change. David can go from one instrument to another, changing tempos and textures all while improvising or playing melody lines. One time you may see him play one of the songs with an aggressive edge while soloing on guitar, and the next it might be more mellow and the melody will be on trombone….you just never know.

If that was not enough, there’s also a video aspect to the show. While all the music is playing a video that David has created will be playing alongside the music allowing the audience to be truly immersed into the performance.

The live shows are expected to start right after the beginning of the new year.

While David will continue playing shows all around the west coast, he’s doing his best to back away from some projects so he can dedicate more time to this project. David has said many times that this is what considers the most important work of his life.

Current Projects and Bands

Currently David is playing out at least a few times a month with Crossfire. Crossfire is one of the top dance bands in northern California. It’s a nine piece powerhouse of a band with a ton of talent. Reggie Scott from Pride and Joy and Grammy nominee Emma Jean Foster Front the band. David is the musical director of the band and has plays trombone most of the time, but occasionally plays bass and keys. The band has had quite a few big names sit in at different times including Martin Scott from Pride and Joy, the late, great Michael Whitwell, Peter Welker, Al Garth from Loggins and Messina and the Eagles, Bobby Gaviola who has worked with Pete Escovedo, Sheila E, Malo, and many more.

Crush

Crush has been an on again and off again project for David. Crush is a rock tribute band where they cover Bon Jovi material. It’s a great band and they sound amazingly enough….like Bon Jovi. They put on a great show and there are some good things in the works including an upcoming recording session and video. The group will also be playing at the October Fest in Redwood City on October 30th. Don’t miss it!

Dalt Williams Jazz Group

David occasionally plays with Dalt as part of Dalt’s “A” band. David has done a number of shows with Dalt and has also performed for a TV show that aired in July.

David Prescott’s Jazz Warriors

This was one of David’s favorite projects. David put together some of the most talented players in the north bay to form the Warriors. They played a number of shows and did some recording. But due to some differences in goals in the band he put on the breaks and let it break up. Now that he is on the peninsula he had his first performance with the new Jazz Warriors this past week and was very happy with the results.  After playing in front an apreciative audience, they were amazed to find out that we a new band. We were told that we sounded like we’ve played together for years.

The personnel is still up in the air a bit, but good things are happening for this band once again.

Final Words…

With the new recording setup David should be adding new material to this site in a matter of weeks so check back often. We’ll add links where you can hear the music. The best place to go is to either the jazz or rock links in the top menu.

Enjoy!
